Squirrels From Hell reflect on their experience at the Kennel >>The Netherlands
Posted 25 August 2009, 11:37 by The Kennel
This just in: The Netherlands will be in next month for 5 days of tracking with the estimable Wharton Tiers. We could not be happier about that!
Formed in 2004, The Netherlands are an NYC/Brooklyn based rock band, comprised of New Yorker guitarist/ multi-muso Timo Ellis (Joan As Police Woman, Cibo Matto, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Miho Hatori), TexIrish-Mexican drummer Japa Keenon O. (Cibo/Sean as well, The Suzannes, Morningwood, Money Mark, Daniel Johnston, Smokey Hormel), and Connecticut-ian bassist/co-yowler Hannah Moorhead (The Twenty Twos, Silver Rockets, Electric Mood Maidens). Together, simply put, they fuckin’ rock!
Slayer, Michael Jackson, Melt Banana, PiL, Earth, Wind, and Fire, CAN, The Wipers, Nina Hagen, Melvins, The Cars, The U-Men, and countless others have influenced their sound, although it would be overly simplistic to compare them to any one band, or genre even!
Check out thenetherlands.tv to sample their wares. Following that, search The Netherlands on iTunes and purchase their latest EP, entitled Gato Au Chocolat, along with the first two EPs, The Netherlands and Atro-City Sleepers.

I’ve recorded at the Kennel a few times now and hope to record there many more. The room and equipment are outstanding, as is the skill and experience of the engineers. It’s a super-friendly environment with people that just want you to achieve exactly what you hear in your head. The Kennel folks are always excited about your session and excited about getting the sound just right. I’m a big fan of these lovely men.
