  1. Recording at the Kennel was like hanging out in your living room with your cool cousins. The vibe is cozy, comfortable, and relaxed, both in and out of the room. There’s a great range of equipment, funky lamps for setting the mood, and great views of the open sky above Brooklyn. Jim and James are welcoming, professional, and funny. We’ll be back for sure.

I’ve recorded at the Kennel a few times now and hope to record there many more. The room and equipment are outstanding, as is the skill and experience of the engineers. It’s a super-friendly environment with people that just want you to achieve exactly what you hear in your head. The Kennel folks are always excited about your session and excited about getting the sound just right. I’m a big fan of these lovely men.
    Jarrod Ruby (MANX, Thirdborder)

We were floored by how great our music sounded at such an affordable price. We would recommend recording at The Kennel to any band that cares about their music, and wants it recorded in a relaxed, no stress, setting. I doubt we will ever record at any other studio as long as we live in New York.
    — Fred “Sid Viciouser” of The Odortones

“The Kennel is a perfect spot for capturing the excitement and immediacy of a live sound. With lots of analog gear the vibe in this sweet Bushwick room is full of texture and warmth — both sonically and personally. Billy, the engineer and also a great producer, is really sensitive to listening for that magic moment and focusing everyone in the room towards it. You’ll leave happy!

The Kennel feels like home to me and the Sharp Things. We’ve recorded a few tunes at the studio thus far, with stellar results, and we’re breaking ground later this month on our fourth album and we couldn’t be more excited. The engineers are top-notch, the gear runs from sought-after vintage to state-of-the-art, and the overall vibe is friendly, cool and accommodating. And while the space is modest-sized, the acoustics are grand and there’s an enviable view of the Manhattan skyline.
    — Perry Serpa of The Sharp Things

“The Kennel is a really cool studio that you can let loose in. Once you close the door nothing matters but the music. All the guys that work there are ultra relaxed but diligent and understand what it takes to get a great sound.”
    — Danny Baptista of The Cool And Deadly

“I always expect making a record in a real studio to be a nerve-wracking experience, but Jamie and Jim at the Kennel made me feel right at home, indulging my perfectionist tendencies and caring as much as I did about making my band’s record sound good. Their enthusiasm for their work was obvious. I really looked forward to going to the studio each day, and I’m extremely happy with the results. I’d recommend the Kennel to anyone.
    — Charlie Wilmoth of FOX Japan

“The Kennel has a nice big recording room, and we were able to get great sounds whether it was a solo vocals and guitar song or a full rocking band. Best of all are the people who work there: no snarky, frustrated musician types wishing they were doing something else, just talented engineers and mixers who are down to earth, have a good sense of humor, and have great ears.
    — Josh McIlvain of Sexcop

My experience at the Kennel was top notch. James Pertusi is, by far, the best engineer I’ve worked with. The quality of tone he recorded for my trombone reflects exactly how I hear my sound. The room has the warmth of the older jazz studios, with the level of sound control you expect out of the modern studios. I can’t wait to record at the Kennel again.
    Bradley Madsen

Thirdborder’s experience at Kennel Studio was nothing short of amazing. We all dug the room sound, the work Wharton did on the project, the various engineers and especially Billy and Jim. Speaking for myself and Thirdborder, I’d be more than happy to record there again and have nothing but positive things to say about The Kennel.
    — Ben Miller of Thirdborder

Recording at the Kennel was a joy. The staff helped to create a friendly, productive atmosphere. Great room, great gear, and the staff’s genuine enthusiasm for the creative process made it easy to get great results. Highly recommended! The view isn’t bad either…”

The Kennel is quickly becoming our favorite place to record. Being able to capture the full band live to tape is amazing, plus access to glorious vintage gear to boot… what else could we ask for!? The staff are so relaxed during sessions, we forget they are even there. Billy has a great ear, but most importantly listens for the sound the band is actually going for. All in all, the Kennel creates a perfect atmosphere to do what you came to do — make music.”
